ART211 Blog #2

Today in class (2/3) we watched Pjotr Sapegin's Madama butterfly film. At first, I found the film bizarre and somewhat pointless, but after watching for another 2 or 3 minutes, I soon realized that it had a deeper meaning. I was truly surprised how much emotion was expressed by the characters and music featured in the film.

Today we also talked about the history and significance of opera throughout the world. I already knew opera's not only portrayed the emotion of saddness, but many more emotions including comedy and action. I also knew from previous experiences of opera, that it was influenced and originated by countries such as Italy, Germany, and Austria. My mothers fathers side of the family is all from Austria or were from Austria before the Holocaust took place, which resulted in many deaths of my decent family.
